I'm excited yet also a bit nervous because this will be the very first time I will be teaching children. I know this will not be a cake walk but it will be a great experience for me. Language studies has always been a strong interest of mine. Just as I enjoy learning Korean and Japanese in my free time, I'm sure there are those who enjoy learning English as well. It will be my job to give students the confidence they need and assist them on their journey to becoming better English speakers! For the first week of teaching, SLS will provide me with training and assistance.
I have purchased a few various ESL books from Amazon.com so I am hoping these will assist me well during the first few months I am in Korea. I am well aware that I will have no internet for the first three or four weeks because I will not yet have an alien card. Hence why I opted to buy some books to help me instead of referring to the internet. I know I have read up on various websites that I shouldn't do it because it may be a waste of time, but honestly I think I will still find some helpful advice to keep the classroom more entertaining and less boring. Who knows, it might even provide good ideas for games or activities that can be used during certain lessons. My students will be Elementary and Middle School level so it should be fun!
Until my flight at the end of this month or beginning of next month, I will first be working during my final two weeks at my current job Newsday. Following those two weeks, I will then spend a week storing items away and packing. Sometime next week I will be letting my supervisors know of my decision and will be wishing everyone well. :)
I look forward to my next entry and hope you will too!
